  4. NATIONWIDE LIFTING OF LOCKDOWN BEGINS PHASED RESUMPTION OF ON-SITE OPERATIONS AT CNES’S FOUR CENTRES

    The nationwide lifting of the lockdown begins today, Monday 11 May. CNES, which has transitioned 90% of its people to teleworking since 16 March, is resuming on-site operations at each of its four centres in a phased manner.

    The prizegiving ceremony for the third ActInSpace competition organized by CNES, ESA and ESA BIC Sud France (1) was held during the Toulouse Space Show 2018. This year’s edition of the competition created to nurture entrepreneurial start-up initiatives employing space technologies brought together some 2,229 participants from 53 cities in 32 countries on five continents, who between them presented 510 start-up projects.

    On Tuesday 6 August, Ariane 5 will take off from the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), Europe’s spaceport in Kourou, to orbit two telecommunications satellites—Intelsat 39, for operator Intelsat, and EDRS-C, for ESA and Airbus. The launch will mark Ariane 5’s 105th flight, its third in 2019 and the seventh of the year from the CSG.

The launch will mark Ariane 5’s 104th flight, the 71st with the ECA variant, its second in 2019 and the fifth of the year from the CSG.

The launch will mark Ariane 5’s 103rd flight, the 70th with the ECA variant, its first in 2019 and the first of the year from the CSG.

  11. 100th Ariane 5 flight to orbit Horizons 3e and Azerspace-2/Intelsat 38

    Tuesday 25 September, Ariane 5 will be sent aloft from the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), Europe’s spaceport in Kourou, to orbit two telecommunications satellites: Horizons 3e, built by Boeing for Intelsat and its partner SKY Perfect JSAT, and Azerspace-2/Intelsat 38, built by Space Systems Loral (SSL) for Azercosmos and Intelsat. The launch will mark Ariane 5’s 100th flight, its fourth in 2018 and the sixth of the year from the CSG.

  15. Next Ariane 5 mission set to launch SES-14 and Al Yah 3 satellites

    Thursday 25 January, Ariane 5 will lift off from the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), Europe’s spaceport in Kourou, to place two new telecommunications satellites into orbit: SES-14, built by Airbus Defence and Space for SES, and Al Yah 3, built by Orbital ATK for Yahsat (Al Yah Satellite Communications Company). This will be the first launch of the year from the CSG and Ariane 5’s 97th in total.

For its third flight in 2017, its 93rd in total and the sixth launch of the year from the CSG, Ariane 5 will be setting a new performance record for total payload weight orbited, carrying 10,865 kilograms with a net mass at lift-off of 9,969 kilograms for the two satellites.

  20. President Hollande and CNES take science culture to youngsters

    On a visit to the Vaulx-en-Velin planetarium, President François Hollande spoke to astronaut Thomas Pesquet during a live link-up with the International Space Station (ISS) to engage youngsters and get them interested in space as CNES kicks off a unique operation allowing 1,300 schools to perform the same experiments as the astronaut on the station.
